Explain the nature versus nurture debate in our understanding of human development and

behavior. Which perspective do Developmental Psychologists prefer? Why? Using the example

of temperament in babies, explain the interplay between the two perspectives and how they

influence early human development. Finally, describe the three parenting styles classified by

Baumrind and the effects of each parenting style on the children’s social and emotional

development. Which parenting style were you exposed to and how has that impacted your

development? Which style would you prefer to use when raising your own children? Why?

• Papers should be between 2-3 pages. A hard copy of the assignment is due in class. It should

be typed, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 12 point font, with one-inch margins,

include page numbers, and should be stapled. The assignment should have a proper heading

with your name, due date, and section. Deviating from these specifications will result in point

deductions on the assignment.
