Aims of Module:
 
To provide a source for the essential evaluation of divergent perspectives on the design, culture, operation and management of organisations including the relationships between employees, employers and ultimately, all stakeholders of the firm. 
 
 
Focusing on the importance of managing human and organisational resources in developing and maintaining organisational success and competitive edge, the module further aims to give students confidence to enable them achieve an enhanced understanding of, and sensitivity to, the managerial dynamics and processes that influence the behaviours and performance of people at work.

1. Evaluate the managerial and business environment and analyse how resourcing an organisation is affected and informed by internal and external factors that in turn, serves to influence the policies, procedures and processes adopted by the firm;
2. Critically analyse the links between human resource management and development to achieving prosperity and success for stakeholders through the implementation of fair, efficient and effective policies and procedures that serve to deliver upon the strategic aims of the firm.
 
Case Study Assignment (100%)
Focusing on one organization that you are familiar with, write a 3,000-word essay on the question below, citing and referencing appropriate theoretical and business literature.
Employee engagement is a strong positive attitude among people towards their work and their organization.  It is generally believed that employee engagement plays a major role in ensuring that employees give their best even when times are tough.  This is of tremendous importance for a company’s success.  Managers should capture the “hearts and minds” of their employees.  Define what is employee engagement and use various motivation theories to illustrate how a company can nurture an engaged workforce.
The suggested words and marks allocated for each part of report are as follow: (100% of Total)
   Introduction (5%) – 150 to 200 words
Students need to state the background of the organization studied in this report and to give a reasonable ground on why and how the study may benefit the student as well as the organization
   Literature review (30%) – 900 to 1200 words
Students will be expected to provide an in depth account of at least one key theory related to this study
   Research and discussion (45%) – 1350 to 1800 words
Students can do a mini research to substantiate any conclusion and recommendations provided.  Or the students may choose to provide a logical account on how the theories are being applied in the actual circumstances in the selected organization.
   Conclusion and recommendation (20%) – 600 to 800 words
Conclusion and recommendations need to be supplied based on the theories discussed.  In particular, such conclusion and recommendation needs to be practical and commercially sound.
 
GUIDANCE
This assignment is designed to
 Test your knowledge and application of this subject at Level 7.
 Test your ability to identify the problem affected by Organisational Behavior (OB) as well as Human Resource Management (HRM) activities in an organizational setting.
 Test your ability to apply the appropriate theories, models and concepts of OB as well as HRM for solving the problems. .
 Test your ability to provide feasible solutions and effective recommendations for research and practice.
DO NOT
 Simply describe the problem without reference to appropriate theories, models and concepts. Remember that you are asked to ‘analyse’.
 Rely on Internet sources. You are expected to use appropriate books and journal articles to illustrate your work.
 Submit ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOUR OWN WORK. If there is any reason to suspect the originality of your work you WILL be called to attend a viva voce.
YOU SHOULD
 Make reference to at least 10 academic sources to enhance your answer.
 Use the Harvard Referencing System correctly.
 Use the chosen literature to explain aspects of the problem and to support your contentions and recommendations.

MARKING CRITERIA AND GRADING
GRADE A (70% OR ABOVE): To achieve a grade A the report should be exceptionally well written and well presented. You should have used appropriate literature to explain and underpin the contentions made in the body of the text. The literature should be properly referenced using the Harvard system. The work should clearly demonstrate evidence of wide reading and a thorough understanding of the subject. The theory should be correctly and creatively applied to the subject of the study. The content should be accurate, creative and intelligently written at the appropriate level.
GRADE B (60 TO 69%): To achieve a grade B the report should be very well written and presented. You should have used appropriate literature to explain and underpin the contentions made in the body of the text. The literature should be properly referenced using the Harvard system. The work should clearly demonstrate evidence of relevant reading and a good understanding of the subject. The theory should be correctly applied to the specific problem. The content should be accurate and logical at the appropriate level.
GRADE C (50 TO 59%): To achieve a grade C the report should be well written and neatly presented. You should have used appropriate literature to explain and underpin the contentions made in the body of the text. The literature should be properly referenced using the Harvard system. The work should demonstrate evidence of some relevant reading and an understanding of the subject. The theory should be correctly applied to the specific problem. The content should be accurate and sensible at the appropriate level.
GRADE D (40 TO 49%): To achieve a grade D the report should be logical and easy to read. You should have used some appropriate literature to explain and underpin the contentions made in the body of the text. The literature should be properly referenced using the Harvard system. The work should demonstrate evidence of some reading and an understanding of the subject. The theory should be applied to the specific problem. The content should be accurate and sensible and largely at the appropriate level.
GRADE E (30 TO 39%): An E will be awarded where most of the criteria for a Grade D have been achieved, but the report falls short of the overall standard for a pass, or where referencing is not in accordance with the Harvard system. An E will be awarded to work which may be accurate but which largely falls below ‘M’ level.
GRADE F (29% OR BELOW): A piece of work will be awarded an F grade if
