Define the Term Hospitality
Hospitality, in a way, is about the relationship between the hosts and guests, also seen as a basic and important part of daily relationships, including appropriate behaviors, enthusiasm, morality and so on (King, 1995).
When it comes to hotel hospitality, some words such as “customers”, “services” and “comfort” then naturally come into people’s minds, according to which hotels are seen as the hosts or the providers, offering lodging and more. Undoubtedly, nowadays there has been growing demands of needs from people and what’s more, hotels think what they have should have to catch up with the rapid changes of the society, as a consequence of which, they tends to be as well-round as possible to satisfy customers. Meanwhile, hotel hospitality, to some extent, turns to be really commercial and tries to obtain benefits from customers or even competitors. It can be easily drown out a conclusion that hotel hospitality has already shifted to emphasize customers’ growing demands of needs. It is said that in Spain, after some surveys, things can be viewed that customers play a critical role in the hotel hospitality, while hotels may do their utmost to meet the customers’ standards (José el al., 2011).
Taking in consideration with the rapidly changing market place and the complexity of that market place, hospitality industry has been urged to make changes to adjust to this mutative world, which also, step by step, turns to be increasingly commercial. Without doubt, at the beginning hospitality industry was simply for travelers, a good relationship or business (Brotherton and Wood, 2007). But now in the real world it is not enough for hospitality industry to satisfy itself when the guests would like to served much more comfortably, the competitions are aroused or the inner heart of hospitality industry is growing greedy. Hospitality industry has become complex today, for instances, diverse patterns, various levels and complicated aims, starting to re-evaluate its role and trying to ingratiate the guests/strangers for the sake of surviving in this market place.
Under the fierce situations in the market place, the relationship between the hosts and the guests does obviously have changes, so does hospitality industry. Now as a services provider, hospitality industry pays more attention to entertain customers and let them feel pleased and satisfied, for a good fame, a steady stream of people as well as a great deal of wealth (Brotherton and Wood, 2000). According to the high-speed changes in market place, hospitality industry tends to aim at every kind of customers to offer specific services. If hospitality industry wants to maintain and gain more customers, it is essential for it to catch up with the little change among customers and make a correct understanding of their changing direction.
At this moment and in the future, hospitality industry is no longer one kind of simple manner or action, in addition to be a bit of changeable and full of complexity. Hospitality industry now is playing a vital and necessary role in not only business but also cultural aspects, which hazily shows its potential trends in the long run.
